IT may be a new year, but it was a case of the same old story for Swindon Ladies 1sts as they fell to their third defeat in a row in Premier Division One as they lost 3-0 at Cheltenham.

The Gloucestershire hosts piled on the pressure in the first half, but Swindon held firm and required a fine save from Claire Tyas to keep the scores level at the break.

A tiring Swindon were made to pay after the interval with Cheltenham taking the lead two minutes into the second period.

The hosts upped the tempo and doubled their advantage when a shot deflected home off Claire Sage.

Swindon were putting the pressure on their visitors from the start, with some nice traingle work down the right between Issy Harding, Helen Niblock and Anna Samuel.

However, the Wessex Division One basement side made the most of a lull in play from the hosts to break the deadlock.

Swindon fired back and levelled when their first short corner reached Sue Roberts at the top of the D - her ball for Rachel Dobson on the left post sailing over the line and into the goal.

The hosts took the lead when some silky skills from Kim Taylor saw her fire beyond the Bath keeper.

In the second half, Swindon put the pressure on again and made it 3-1 thanks to an Emily Prowse effort, following some good build up play.

Swindon started to panic and City of Bath gained a period of possession, but Michele Harding, Sophie Hood and Karen Silvester made strong tackles and clearances to keep the ball out of the goal.

The hosts once again regained control of the match with player-of-the-match Prowse going on to net two more goals and complete her hat-trick and the 5-1 win.

The seconds will now look to build on that success when they make the trip to Frome on Saturday.
