SWINDON Shock got their title bid back on track with an 82-80 win over league leaders RCT Gladiators this weekend.

David Colclough’s side went to Rhondda, Wales, on the back of a disappointing loss to Woking Blackhawks last time out.

But after a dedicated week of training, Shock came racing out of the blocks to take a 13-point lead in the first quarter.

The second period was won by the hosts as they clawed their way back into contention, reducing the deficit to two points as the quarter came to a close.

But the New College-based side were able to re-establish a lead thanks to good work from center Matt Ford and guard Alistair Tilney.

Their late surge meant they went into the third instalment of the game with a healthy nine-point lead, much to the displeasure of the home fans.

The quarter was dominated by the league leaders as they outscored Shock by 15 points to take a six-point lead overall.

But the visitors were able to rally once again as the returning Spencer Wells and Antonio Wilburn handed Colclough’s troops a one-point lead midway through the fourth.

The teams then exchanged baskets, before a cheap turnover left Rhondda with a three-point play with seven seconds left.

The visitors drew up and inbound play that wasted time, before sending Matt Ford to the free-throw line to seal the win.

The victory means Shock are level on points with the top two – Gladiators and Cardiff City.
