SWINDON Shock player-coach David Colclough admits this weekend’s trip to Manchester Giants II will be a tall order for his side.

The New College-based side will travel to the Trafford Sportsdome for their National League Division Four play-off semi-final tomorrow.

Having already dispatched both Barking Abbey and Wolverhampton University at home in the previous rounds, Shock now have to hit the road to try and book their place in the final.

“The travelling is a bit of a concern because we haven’t had to do it yet,” said Colclough.

“It brings me back to Myers Croft a few years ago where we tried to drive up and play.

“We had absolutely no legs and we got smashed.

“We didn’t look like the same team, so, for me, I want to go up on the night before.

“It makes the world of difference.”

The Giants, like Shock, were crowned champions in their regular season as they lost just one game in the National League Division Four North.

But while they are a relatively unknown quantity, Colclough has been able to gain some idea of what his troops might come up against at the weekend.

“I think I know what to expect from them because we are friends with a few of the players who play at Bristol who gave us a little scouting report,” added Colclough.

“I’ve been able to find a couple of YouTube clips of their games and one of the things I do think we have an advantage on them is size.

“They don’t have a true centre, which is where we were at the beginning of the year and now have two bigger players.

“It could work in their favour when our bigger guys are trying to guard some of their smaller guys.

“But then again, I like the idea of two players who are 6’7 under the basket with guys who are 6ft trying to stop them.”

Shock will have a full squad to choose from going into the game apart from youngster Ollie Swan, who is unavailable.
