IT WAS a double celebration for Wanborough’s Louise Hunt as she emerged victorious in both the singles and doubles at the Polish Open.

The wheelchair tennis star, who recently claimed the doubles title at the Open De Vendee in France last month, was able to keep up her recent form in Plock.

During her time in France she managed to reach the final in both the singles and the doubles, but only recorded victory in the doubles in a 6-2, 6-3 success.

Hunt, who is currently ranked 13th in the world for doubles and 19th for singles, admits she has been enjoying her time back on the court after taking a break following the Paralympics in Rio last year.

“It was really nice to get both and I felt like I played great all week (in Poland),” said Hunt.

“They didn’t have a practice court so in my first match, which was a real fight, I had to get used to the court, but I actually love playing on clay.

“It has been quite uplifting because to come back and do well because I was nervous about coming back to the tour after what felt like a very long time away.

“To me it was so alien to do that, but it is really promising and a bit of a relief that everything seems to be paying off.”

After winning the doubles title alongside Michaela Spaanstra in comprehensive style with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Argentine duo Maria Florencia Moreno and Antonella Pralong, Hunt then faced Dutch teammate in the singles final.

Hunt had the superior record going into the head-to-head and that would be the case once again as she wrapped up a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win.

“You just get used to it because it happens quite a lot, but it was fine,” she added.

“I hadn’t played her in about a year so it was a little bit unknown because a lot can change in that time.

“There is still plenty for me to improve on but I think the main thing for me is just to develop some weapons.

“We are working really hard to make my serve and my forehand bigger weapons to match my backhand.”
