LOUISE Hunt is looking forward to the thrills and spills of Wimbledon this year, even if the Wanborough wheelchair tennis ace will not actually be out on court.

Hunt has competed at SW19 in each of the last two years and was in the draw when wheelchair singles competitions were held for the first time 12 months ago.

An extended break from tournament action earlier this year has seen the 26-year-old fall to 22 in the world in singles and 13 in doubles – with Hunt’s career high rankings in the top 10 for both.

That means she has not been able to secure entry to play on the hallowed lawns this year, although Hunt will at least get the chance to take in the All England Club from a different vantage point.

“Unfortunately, I am not playing this year because my ranking has dropped loads. I did apply for the wildcard on the off chance but I didn’t get it,” said Hunt.

“It was always going to be a bit unrealistic to get in, just because of how much my ranking has dropped, not because of the way I am playing.

“Sometimes it’s hard to have these times out where your ranking drops a bit but it’s just part of the process. I am not too disappointed because it wasn’t on my plan for this year anyway.

“I will still be there this year as I am actually commentating instead, so that’s sort of a nice second prize.

“I am sure it will be a bit of an anti-climax to go there and not be playing but it’s still a nice opportunity and I am looking forward to it.

“To commentate is really great because you can still learn so much. When I commentated a few years ago, the amount I learned by sitting and analysing was great. If anything, it will benefit my tennis anyway.”

Two-time Paralympian Hunt continued her excellent run of recent form by reaching at least one final for the fourth tournament in a row at last week’s Wroclaw Cup in Poland.

This time it was in the singles competition, with Hunt finishing as runner-up to German Katharina Kruger after going down 6-2, 6-1.

She had earlier dropped just five games in her previous two matches to qualify for the final.
