SWINDON’S Charlie Nesbitt recorded his best finish to date when he came seventh in the Estoril round of the Moto3 Junior World Championship.

The teenager looked set to have a good weekend from the off, when he recorded a qualifying lap only 0.582 from Raul Fernandez on pole position in Portugal.

Starting in 13th on the grid after a competitive qualifying session, the race took place under sunny skies, but riders would have to navigate a strong wind.

At the start Nesbitt was unfortunate to be caught up behind an early collision which saw him lose seven places on the opening lap.

He then moved up to 14th by the end of the second lap, and a few laps later the Swindon rider was into 10th place moving through the field into seventh.
