SWINDON Storm may have already made club history by securing their first-ever winning season but head coach Rich Van Sloten won’t let that distract them this weekend from achieving their ultimate aim.

Having seen off the Cornish Sharks at the weekend courtesy of touchdowns from Victor Ofoe and Dan Thorne, Van Sloten’s side now have the chance to secure another club first this weekend, with victory over Jurassic Coast Raptors securing a berth in the end of season play-offs.

However, Van Sloten is keen not to let his side take their eye off the ball so close to the finish line and will treat their opponents, who they have already beaten this campaign, with the respect they deserve.

“It was a very, very good result last weekend,” he said.

“We’ve had a bit of a losing streak with them (Sharks) for a couple of seasons now and I think everyone believed they could do it at the weekend.

“This year has been all about the mindset of the players.

“I started off this year just wanting to have a competitive year and now we’ve got the chance of making the play-offs, which feels very special.

“It’s down to the players and the coaches, they’re the guys who deserve all the credit.

“A winning season is another first and everyone has really come on board.

“The one thing we have got to be this weekend is focussed.”

Storm’s final regular season game will take place at Supermarine Rugby Club, South Marston, at 2.30pm on Sunday and with free admission, Van Sloten is hoping for a bumper attendance to cheer them on.

“The support this year has been fantastic and because it’s the last home game of the season, we’re hoping for a big crowd,” he added.
