RUNAWAY Division One leaders Pinehurst A lost their first match of the season in the Swindon & District Association’s Winter League.

Lowly Corsham sprung a big surprise by ending Pinehurst’s run of 10 straight wins by beating them 28-24.

In Division Two, Lawn B sneaked a 46-44 victory in their top-of-the-table clash against Raychem, with Ebony McIntyre Lawn’s player of the match.

Lawn came out fighting and took an early lead with their strong shooting partnership of Lyn Palmer and Holly Atkins.

However, Raychem came back at Lawn in the second quarter to reduce Lawn’s lead to just one goal.

Throughout, Molly Bourton, Ebony McIntyre and Gemma Duff were a massive supporting trio for the Lawn defence and attack with their skill, patience and determination.

Lawn made some changes at half-time with Courtney Arnold making an instant impact in the shooting circle.

In a nailing-biting finish, Lawn went into the last quarter leading by one goal. With some crucial team work from Florrie Green, Carly Passmore and Lottie Clinton, Lawn kept the pressure on and took a five-goal lead, Again Raychem fought back, getting to within two goals, but Lawn stayed strong and came out winners.

Lyn Palmer was POM for Lawn C in their 56-37 win at Delta A in the same section.

Royal Wootton Bassett A achieved an early lead against Nationwide B in Division 2 and managed to maintain it to finish up as 56-43 winners. Annabel Hoskin was named Bassett’s player of the match.

In Division Four, Moonraker came back from two defeats to start the second half of the season with a 35-27 win against Faringdon.

It was a strong contest with both teams going goal for goal most of the game, and Olivia Wood getting Moonrakers’ POM.

Royal Wootton Bassett B dug deep to beat Delta B 54-47 in a close encounter, in freezing conditions.

The teams were evenly matched throughout the game and Delta B started the game well, taking second-placed Bassett by surprise to lead the first quarter by a goal.

In the second quarter, good teamwork by shooters Jennifer McMahon and Denise Greenberg extended Delta’s lead to three goals. Becky Goddard at Centre played at 100 per cent, despite having played a full game earlier for the A team.

In the second half Bassett made some changes and their new goalkeeper impressed as they fought back to be only one goal behind.

Then in the final quarter Bassett found some extra reserves to storm ahead and win the match, with their Player of the Match GS Kath Young.

Delta’s POM was Jennifer McMahon (GA).

Lawn D built on a strong first quarter, which saw them lead 17-0, as they saw off bottom club Pinehurst D 72-2 win, and Lauren Twice (C) their Player of the Match.

Lawn E’s Division Five match at Croft C was cancelled due to the weather and court conditions.
