RAYCHEM Netball Club's Mo Squires has clinched a prestigious national honour after being awarded the Torch Trophy Trust’s Sports Volunteer of the Year prize.
Squires, a volunteer with Raycham and the Swindon Vixens - a club aimed at local women with learning disabilities - was presented with the accolade at a ceremony in London
She was nominated by England Netball for her exceptional service to the sport and to her local community, something which stretches back to 1976.
Squires coached and managed Wiltshire county teams until 2004 and continues to play, umpire and coach for her club, as well as being a founder of the Vixens and being a leading proponent of Walking Netball, a sport which allows thousands of women who had otherwise thought their playing days were over to play the sport again.
She was presented with her prize by HRH The Duke of Gloucester while Trust president and England football great Sir Bobby Charlton was also on hand at the ceremony at the Army and Navy Club.
The Torch Trophy Trust was founded in 1962 to encourage, reward and recognise the country's three million sports volunteers.
