SWINDON rounded off their promotion-winning season in Conference North of the Go Crea8 League with a 5-3 success at home to Bristol UWE.

The victory mean Tom Goldsmith’s side are guaranteed to end the campaign as runners-up behind champions West Wilts.

Captain Goldsmith said “It wasn’t our best performance on Saturday but we have achieved our aim of the season and that was to get promoted back to the Championship.”

Swindon were slow to start and went behind early on, although they were somewhat unfortunate as a kick from a UWE forward went unnoticed by the umpire.

The home side bounced back and scored two well-worked goals through Tom Wickens and Rob Riddell, although another strike from UWE meant it was 2-2 at half-time.

The second half continued to be a battle for Swindon, who struggled to get into their normal flowing attacking play and it took them another 15 minutes before they go in front again when Goldsmith scored.

Nat O’Dwyer then grabbed a goal after good work from Luke Cejer and although the students came back into when they capitalised on some poor defending for another goal, Swindon scored again to put the result beyond doubt.

Swindon Ladies matched both the scoreline of their male counterparts and their runners-up league finish after a 5-3 success away at Redland UWE in their penultimate game of the season in Premier Division Two A of the West Clubs Women’s League.

The visitors had actually struggled to get a full team together for the game and made the trip with keeper Sarah Anstey set for a debut on pitch for the first team and Izzy Robinson filling in between the sticks.

Therefore, it did not take the home side long to get on the scoresheet and they broke the deadlock with just 45 seconds on the clock.

This spurred Swindon into action and they were soon level from a short corner as Chloe Lewis hit the ball cleanly over the line.

The visitors then moved in front after 20 minutes when Adriana Boullosa carried the ball to the edge of the D before firing over the keeper.

Swindon were awarded a penalty flick a minute into the second half when Boullosa saw a shot saved by a foot on the line and Lewis stepped up to net her second of the game.

Redlands cut the deficit after Swindon took their foot off the gas but the response was swift as Lewis completed her hat-trick via another short corner.

Skilful work by Lynsey Wall won Swindon their next short corner and this time Lewis flicked the ball to Boullosa, who fired in for her second.

Redland were able to get on the scoresheet again before the finish but Swindon were comfortable winners in the end.
