AMY Warre has made a terrific start to the new track and field season.

The Swindon Harriers’ youngster has clearly benefitted from a good winter of training under the guidance of coach Tony Jackson as she had already notched up a series of personal bests.

Competing at the Yate & District AC Spring Throws & Jumps Open last weekend, Warre recorded new bests in the U15 girls’ high jump (1.45m) – also going very close to 1.48m - and long jump (4.62m).

Harriers coach John Dill has seen Warre make steady progress since joining the club and is delighted with her results so far.

“Whilst I’m still listed as Amy’s coach and keep a watching brief, I would credit Tony, who has worked hard with Amy this winter which has resulted in a double personal best,” said Dill.

“Amy has been at the club for over five years now and is a talented long jumper, high jumper and sprint hurdler, with potential to progress in the sport.”

Also at Yate, Hannah Lewington, who has established herself as one of the top javelin throwers in the UK in the U13s age group, was a convincing winner in her discipline after throwing 34.18m, which is just below her season’s best mark of 34.42m.

In addition, the Imeson sisters, Issy and Sophie, demonstrated their all-round ability with a series of good performances.

Older sister Issy won the U15 girls’ shot and was fourth in the javelin, while Sophie notched up a hat-trick of victories in the U13s discus, shot and long jump, the latter with a personal best of 4.15m.

In contrast, Harriers middle distance runner Harriet Hillman opted to compete in the final indoor meeting of the winter at the Lee Valley Stadium in London on Sunday.

Making her debut on the boards, Hillman clocked a superb time of 2mins 28.57secs to go fourth in the 2018 UK rankings for U13 girls and top of the South West lists.

Coach Bryan Clinton said: “It was Harriet’s first time indoors and was a great experience for her,.

“Harriet is a very talented and enthusiastic girl and I am sure this summer we will get her down to running 2mins 20secs for the 800m.”
