THE fencing team at Pinewood School near Shrivenham continues to go from strength to strength after two of their top fencers returned from an international competition in Poland.

Ben Turner and Lottie Jordan flew out to compete in Challenge Wratislavia, Turner finishing 51st overall and the second best English fencer in his year group and Jordan 63rd in the girls epee competition, the third highest English fencer in the category.

The five-day Challenge Wratislavia is the largest fencing tournament in Europe for children, taking place in Wroclaw, with more than 2,000 fencers from all over the world participate.

Pinewood fencers are coached by former pupil Neil Bromley, who said: “The results that the Pinewood fencers have achieved this year are fantastic, but it is the passion and dedication that each child has for fencing that I am most proud of.

"Both Ben and Lottie returned from Poland having had an incredible adventure and importantly gained confidence and life experience.”

Pinewood recently hosted its inaugural fencing challenge, welcoming over 60 children from a number of different schools to compete in foil, epee and sabre, the host school leading the medal table, with 11.
