SWINDON kickboxer India Mae Thompson has been acclaimed for her world-beating achievements at the British Martial Arts Awards at Lilleshall.

The 15 year old, who fights out of Scorpions Gym in Swindon, scooped the Young Female Martial Artist Of The Year 2018, having clinched three world championship prizes in three countries in 29 days, collecting 16 medals in the space of a month.

She joined a star-studded line-up of fellow winners including former Superstars winner and Olympic judo player Brian Jacks, who picked the award for Martial Arts Book of the Year and Marvel’s Dr Strange film actress Zara Phythian.

Thompson was a WMAC World Champion in Switzerland in the U55kg low kick category and won five titles in Italy at the Unified World Championships - the U50kgs points fighting, U55kgs low kick, U50kgs and U55kgs ring continuous and U60ks sports boxing, as well as a U55kgs ring continuous prize at the ICO World Championbships in Birmingham.
