SWINDON’S Jamie Cox suffered a second-round defeat after he failed to beat the count at the O2 Arena.

The bout between Cox and John Ryder had been bumped up to chief support for David Haye and Tony Bellew’s rematch after Paul Butler failed to make weight against Emmanuel Rodriguez.

The 31-year-old southpaw went into the fight on the back of a second-round win against Harry Matthews in the capital in February.

That fight was a warm-up after his defeat to George Groves last October, which was his first loss as a professional.

However, after a competitive opening round at the O2 Arena, Cox was caught with a crunching right hook from Ryder.

The shot knocked Cox to the canvas for the second time in his 27-fight career and subsequently saw him record his second professioanl defeat after he dubiously failed to beat the referee’s count.
