TURF TALK: Arkells do their bit for racing charity

Arkells, the local Swindon brewery, did their bit for charity at Newbury yesterday when they sponsored a top class card, helping to raise money for people with learning disabilities, their families, carers and professionals.

This afternoon it is Greatwood Charity Day, promoting the work of the Marlborough-based racehorse rehabilitation charity.

As well as family-focused entertainment, there will be some of racing’s old favourites lining up for the Greatwoods Veteran’s Chase.

The feature race of the afternoon is the £50,000 Raymond Mould Supporting Greatwood Gold Cup Chase with Air Force One, Our Vic and Can’t Buy Time included in the entries. However, Paul Nicholls runs Pasco partnered by Ruby Walsh, and the duo could land another big Saturday pay day.

With the weather looking to be set fair there are also jump meetings scheduled for Doncaster, Kempton and Kelso.

With the Cheltenham Festival on the horizon many trainers will be looking at a last chance to give their charges a prep race. Whistlejacquet is entered at Kempton and could be worth a bet, while at Newbury On Borrowed Wings, the mount of Timmy Murphy and Lordsbridge and trained by Andy Turnell, could be worth an interest.

Best bet at Doncaster could be the Nicky Henderson-trained Cucumber Run in the National Hunt Flat Race.
