IN A busy weekend of men’s hockey, Wootton Bassett had most cause to be pleased of any of our local sides after going unbeaten in the Davis Wood Hockey League.
First they turned the screw on Avon Division basement outfit North Wilts, beating their visitors 5-2, before being held to a 0-0 draw at home by Bristol University C on Sunday.
North Wilts did not lose any ground on second-bottom Chippenham A, after they lost 2-0 at Robinsons B.
All of Marlborough’s teams went unbeaten on an excellent weekend for the club, with the firsts leading the way with a decent 2-2 draw at City of Bath in Premier Division 3.
Cirencester were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Bristol & West in North Division 1 while Chippenham were overcome by the odd goal in five against top-of-the-table Penarth.
Like their first-team counterparts, Wootton Bassett A also played a couple of games, this time in Wiltshire & NE Somerset Division 1.
They won 4-2 at home to West Wilts C on Saturday and followed this up with a 3-3 draw at City of Bath B, but they remain firmly in midtable.
In the same division, Marlborough ensured they maintained their grip on top spot in emphatic style as they hammered Shepton Mallet A 7-0.
Swindon A kept the pressure on the table-toppers with a 5-1 triumph at Team Bath Buccs G while in a basement battle, Marlborough B edged out hosts Devizes B 1-0.
There were a couple of huge scorelines in Wiltshire & NE Somerset Division 2 involving Chippenham teams, the B side crushing West Wilts E 11-0 but the D side receiving a 12-0 flogging at Bristol University D.
Swindon C won 2-1 at local rivals North Wilts A, while Swindon B defeated City of Bath 3-1 and Wootton Bassett B emerged 3-1 winners away to West Wilts D.
Elsewhere, in Hereford & Glos Division 1, Cirencester A drew 0-0 at Bourton & Sherborne and then lost 2-1 at home to Lansdown A, while Cirencester B drew 3-3 at Lydney A.
Cirencester C drew 1-1 with Lansdown C in Hereford & Glos Division 2.
In the West Clubs Women’s Hockey League, Premier Division 1 bottom club Swindon secured a creditable 1-1 draw at Yate.
In the North Division, Wootton Bassett cruised to a 3-0 victory over East Glos and Cirencester lost 3-2 to Leominster.
Elsewhere, Marlborough battered Wootton Bassett 2nds 10-0 and North Wilts lost 3-0 to West Wilts in Wessex Division 1.
