MOTOR SPORT: Voaden at the double

SWINDON’S Richard Voaden claimed a double victory at Oulton Park in the opening two rounds of the Honda VTEC Challenge.

Alongside the Integra man, two other local drivers took part, Wootton Bassett’s Rick Rowles in his Honda Civic and Dave Roberts from Fairford driving his CRX.

Voaden and Rowles ran in the super tuner class and Roberts went in the production 1600 class.

After qualifying Voaden led the 18-strong field in a time of 1:53.072, while Rowles was fourth-fastest in 1:55.743 and Roberts was 16th in 2:03.024.

The former’s time gave him an average speed of 70.87mph for the 2.22-mile circuit.

The two races were both contested over 15 minutes, with Voaden winning the first by more than five seconds and Rowles fifth and Roberts eighth.

Race two saw Voaden complete his double with Roberts seventh, again just ahead of Rowles after nine laps.

The next round will be held at Silverstone in June.
