SWINDON Croquet Club beat Bear of Rodborough 3-2 in their first Federation League match.

Founder member Cliff Cardis won both his games and, aided by a win from Ian Megaw, wrapped up the match.

John Airey (Swindon) started well in the doubles match with a five hoop break but the duo of Airey and Megaw were unable to hit in and put a good break together.

They were overhauled by Matthew Jackson and Robert Moss to lose by nine points.

Cardis, playing well to his handicap, leaped ahead from the start, Bruno Pacini only making it halfway around the court as Cardis pegged out to win by 13 points.

Round two in the afternoon was another runaway victory for Cardis.

He galloped around the course to finish with a rover peel in double quick time.

Megaw then beat Pacini by 21 points. Moss won the last game for the Bear Of Rodborough, beating Airey by four points.
