Golden Ed to lead the way at Combe meeting

Castle Combe Circuit hosts its second race meeting of the year with a 10-race programme at the Husqvarna Springtime Raceday on Bank Holiday Monday, writes CHRIS JAMES Reigning Melton Concrete Products Castle Combe Formula Ford 1600 Champion Edward Moore from Bradford on Avon will be proudly wearing the golden helmet' that he won at the wheel of his Class A Van Diemen RF00.

Chippenham's Adam Higgins had a fine drive last time out where he finished third in his first outing in a Class A car while Castle Combe's Andrew Jones got his season off to a good start with a fifth place.

Other Class A local drivers include Cricklade's David Tansley who is having his first race at the track in a single seater .

Class B for Cars built from 01/01/90 to 31/12/95 has Wiltshire entries from Bradford on Avon's David Vivian and Jonathan Hoad from Warminster, while Class C for Cars built before 1990 sees Cirencesrter's Tom Margetson and Swindon's Oliver Bull entered.

The fastest race of the day will be the 15-lap Savesometax.co.uk Castle Combe Special GT Championship Race which was won by Class A racer Shane Marshall of Westbury with a Jade 3000, with Class B being won by Kemble's Edward Lovett who is from the Dick Lovett family of motor dealers, who finished second overall with his Norma M20 Evo 2000, while Swindon's John Avery having his first outing in the GT's with a Mallock P21.

Former champion Keith Sprules from Castle Combe lines up in Class D , for Production based Saloon and Sports Cars, with his Ferrari 360 Challenge.

The multi class National Mobile Windscreens Castle Combe Saloon Car Championship Race is oversubscribed and split in two.

Cirencester's Jonathan Wills MG Maestro and Rick Rowles of Wootton Bassett make a welcome return to the series with a Honda Civic Type R.

Class C has a strong local entry which includes Freshbrook's Wayne Osborne (Peugeot 205).

The 10-lap Lenham Cars MG Midget Challenge with Cornwall Surveying racers make their annual visit to Combe and Dauntsey's Peter Collinson is among them.

The remainder of the programme sees races for theMaX5 Racing Championship, the Bookatrack.com Caterham Super Graduate Championship in association with McMillan Motorsport, the Bookatrack.com Caterham Mega Graduate Championship in association with McMillan Motorsport and the Bookatrack.com Caterham Classic Graduate Championship in association with McMillan Motorsport Monday's action starts at 8.40am with qualifying, racing getting under way from 12.45pm.

Admission prices are £15 for Adults, £7.50 for OAPs, £2.50 for paddock transfer, whilst accompanied children under 16 are admitted free.
