LEE and Lewy Hayward came out on top at Broome Manor’s Get into Golf event recently.

The father and son duo won the competition against a field of 35 other pairs, which was played over six holes with the junior players hitting shots tee to green and adults putting.

Lee and Lewy took the honours with 26 shots, one clear of James Emanuel and Bryn Cox and two clear of five other pairs of young golfers and accompanying adults.

The young players were aged between four and 12-years-old and Hayward, who is the club’s professional, was pleased to be able to accompany his seven-year-old son Lewy to success.

“For me this is the first time I have been out in an adult junior event with my son, and yes I felt the pressure with the old putter but managed to sink a few putts,” he said.

“It was a great day and due to the success we will be running another day in the Easter holidays.”

“The entries came from all our development courses that we run at Broome Manor in which we now have a cracking number of 80 kids taking part in weekly coaching sessions.

“I am really proud of achieving this number and through the coaching it seems to be increasing every term. I think in three to five years time we will be producing a lot of potential next David Howells.”
