SWINDON’S David Howell completed his first round at the KLM Open in the Netherlands this morning carding a two-under-par 70.

Howell was on the 17th hole last night when play was suspended, following an earlier delay when Paraguay’s Fabrizio Zanotti was taken to hospital after being hit by a wayward tee shot.

The Broome Manor pro made a shaky start dropping a shot at the par three third but recovered with back-to-back birdies on the sixth and seventh to card a 35 front nine.

Howell also birdied the par-five 12th and completed his first round this morning with two pars on the final two holes to finish three-shots behind the overnight leader Joost Luiten.

The Wiltshireman is already underway in his second round and after starting on the back nine he dropped a shot on the 12th but responded immediately with a birdie on the next hole.

Howell remains two-under-par after the first six holes, six shots behind current leader Spaniard Pablo Larrazabel.
