CIRENCESTER Senior had to settle for a 3-3 with Burford in their recent match.

The opening match was lost on the final green when Joe Maggs chipped in for a two and he and his captain Alex Ross prevailed two up over Clive Bennett and John Thurston. The next match also went to the last, John Pugh and David Neale fell by 2&1.

Mike Staples and Robert Evans were back in the club house before anyone else strolling to a 7&6 victory. John Canty and Ken Haines then put Ciren on level terms with their two up win.

A loss in the penultimate match put the onus on David Findlay and Bob Allen in the last group to salvage a draw which they did with their 3&2 win In the match at The Worcestershire Ciren sniped a 4-3 win.

Played on one of Britains oldest courses, and against the stunning background of the Malvern Hills, Cirencester usually struggle with the tough greens.

A negative result again looked on the cards when Cirencester lost the first three matches.

Gordon Stone and John Hall started the come back with a 3&2 win and then John King and Chris Berens put paid to their opponents by a hefty 5&3. Francis Sheppard, playing for the Seniors for the first time this season,. partnered Dick Tugwell and they too had a comfortable 4&3 victory. A remarkable turnaround was achieved when Geoff Southwell and Martin Taylor took the final match by 3&1.
