SWINDON’S Martin Sell claimed his fifth win of the season on the Jamega Tour with a nine-under-par finish on Tuesday.

For Martin Sell it was a case of déjà vu at The Essex Golf and County Club when he won there for a second time in a row as a result of a play-off against Jamie Moul.

The Wrag Barn pro started the final day four shots behind Moul and one behind local player Reece Phillips, and after finishing his round did not expect his score to be enough to claim victory.

Moul looked fairly comfortable with a two shot lead and three to play but a bogey on the sixteenth left him needing two pars to win.

A par at the seventeenth left him with the easy par five eighteenth for the win, but the driver came out and then the ensuing trouble, with the resulting bogey left Sell in an unexpected play-off In the play-off Moul again found trouble on the eighteenth, and this left Sell with the easiest of wins and the title for the second year in a row.

“It didn’t go too badly and obviously the result was a good one,” said the Wrag Barn pro.

“I wouldn’t say I played particularly well, I made a couple of pretty poor mistakes, but at the end of the week it was good enough.

“I had a total in mind and was aiming for a round of ten-under.

“It was a course where there were some mistakes, if you were driving well you could score well.

“When I posted nine-under I didn’t think that would be enough to win it.

“I was confident going into the play-off, I had already been in two and won them both.

“It was played on the 18th hole as well and Jamie (Moul) made quite a mess of that in regulation so I thought I had the advantage going into it.

“I set myself a few goals at the beginning of the season, one of which being five wins, which I have now achieved, another was to get back on the tour.”

Sell will begin his goal of making it to the European Tour when he participates in the First Qualifying Stage Section D at the Frilford Heath golf course next Tuesday.
