In the last match of this seasons’s club matches Cirencester lost 4½-3½ at Minchinhampton.

Had the last putt in the last match – a game effort from Joe Hickey – gone a roll further the match would have been draw.

The first pair out, David Findlay and Nigel Curtis set up a commanding early lead, were seven up at the turn and took the match 5&4.

Cirencester had to wait until the fifth match for their next point when Roger Dodd and Mike Bishop won 2&1.

Club captain Mark Woodhead playing with Patrick Moylan kept Cirencester in with a chance when they won their match by 3&2 but Cirencester could only get a half point from the last two matches.

A feature of the end of the summer season is the traditional away day.

This year it was played at the Kendleshire club where the course is notable for water, adding to the challenge of its large and undulating greens.

Forty-eight players competed in teams of 4 in a 6-6-6 themed Bowmaker, hatched up by Cirencester Seniors’ captain Clive Bennett. The winning quartet of Gordon Stone, Roy Lipscombe, Mike Bishop and Neil Grant should be pleased with their performance.

Their score of 101 points was well clear of the field most of which let the course get the better of them.

In second place Richard Payne, John Parsons, Roger Dodd and David Lowbridge scored 96 points, two ahead of the 92 points scored by David Leith, Rodney Williams, Mike Helyer and Keith Miller.
