MARTIN Sell is hoping that he can cap off a fantastic year by gaining a place on the European Tour.

The 34-year-old heads out to Spain this week to play in the second round of the European Tour qualifying school which starts on Friday.

Should the Wrag Barn pro finish in the top 20 in Castellon then he will progress into the final round at the PGA Catalunya.

Sell, who won the Order of Merit on the Jamega Tour this season, is in confident mood ahead of his trip to Spain.

“I’d like to think that I have got a good chance,” Sell said.

“I have been playing pretty consistent this season - to be honest it has been my best season.

“In years gone by there have been periods of the year where I have played well and then not so well.

“This season I have been fairly consistent and I’m hoping that will continue.”

Sell, who has played on several European Tour events during his career, secured his Order of Merit success on the Jamega Tour by winning five events and recording 10 top five finishes.

The Swindon ace, who was fourth in the Order of Merit last year and second 12 months before that, finished with almost double the amount of prize money than Wentworth’s Simon Griffiths who was runner-up.

“Winning the Order of Merit was one of my goals for this year,” the Wrag Barn pro said.

“I felt that the best of the season was in the middle - I strung a couple of wins together and had a couple of seconds too.

“I’m hoping from the qualifying school that I will at least be able to gain enough to play on some of the challenge tour events.

“I have been in that bottom category before. I decided not to play in them so that I could focus on the Jamega, but I’m really looking forward to what is coming up.”
