SWINDON golfer David Howell started off his 2015 with a level par round on the opening day of the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship.

Howell's morning round was an inconsistent affair. A bogey at the par four three was followed-up by a pair of birdies on the following holes to take the Broome Manor pro to one under.

Though an immediate pair of bogeys and another birdie meant after nine Howell was back level.

He would stay that way through till the par-four 14th where he carded a birdie. The 39-year-old's hope of an under par round were dashed at the 17th when as he could only bogey the par-four hole.

Level par leaves Howell towards the back of the pack, tied in spot 71st with the tournament leader Martin Kaymer at eight under.

Howell goes again tomorrow morning, teeing off at 8.10am UK time. Follow his progress in Abu Dhabi on swindonadvertiser.co.uk/sport.
