DAVID Howell has missed the cut in his first European Tour competition of the year.
The Swindon golfer shot a one under par second round at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship, finishing one under overall to miss the cut by one shot.
Howell struggled to get into the swing of things at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club and the 39-year-old could only shoot a level par 72 yesterday.
Starting on the back nine, Howell got off to a confident start and moved up the leaderboard thanks to birdies on the 13th, 17th and 18th.
The Swindon ace then shot par right through to the final two holes, where bogeys on the eighth and ninth holes took the shine off what had earlier looked like a stark improvement on his opening day.
With play yet to conclude, Howell is currently tied 74th, below the projected cut.
