WILTSHIRE launched a superb afternoon fightback to earn a draw against hosts Gloucestershire in the second of their Inter-County Team Matchplay Championship clashes at South West Week today.
The Wiltshire team, captained by Marlborough's Paul Green cancelled out a three-point halfway deficit after the morning singles to tied 7-7 and earn their first point of the event after Sunday's opening-day loss against Somerset at the Bristol & Clifton Golf Club.
A second successive defeat looked likely for Green's men when they lost the singles 5.5-2.5, only 2015 county champion Garry Slade (Bowood) and Dom Baverstock-Seaman (Marlborough) earning wins, while North Wilts' Jack Charman.
But in the afternoon, Slade teamed up with vice-captain Ali James (Cumberwell Park) to defeat Nick Day and Jamie Dick by two holes, while Bowood's Luke Gorman and Charman saw off Laurie Potter and Mitch Waite 3&2.
Although Baverstock-Seaman and Marlborough clubmate Ben Amor were comfortably defeated 5&4, Brome Manor's James Wiltshire and Tom Law edged home by one hole against Noah Hessey and Andy Hale to ensure parity.
