WILTSHIRE'S attempt to reach this autumn's English county finals ended as Somerset won the South West qualifier at Bristol & Clifton Golf Club today.

The county finished on a combined 62 over par some 18 shots adrift of Somerset, who booked their place at Wychwood Park in Cheshire in September.

Also running today was the South West Amateur Championship and Wiltshire Boys champion Jamie Amor (Marlborough) held the halfway lead after a two-under-par 68, but a second-round 77 slipped him back to tied 14th.

Amor's brother Ben finished on eight over par and tied 20th alongside WIltshire county champion Garry Slade (Bowood).

Wiltshire's best-placed finisher was North Wilts' Jack Charman, who carded rounds of 73 and 70 to finish tied sixth and fourth in the youth championship which was running concurrently.

Tom Law, of Broome Manor, ended on 13 over par with Wiltshire vice-captain Ali James (Cumberwell Park) a further five shots back.

Marlborough's Dom Baverstock-Seaman ended on 26 over par.

Wiltshire resume their Inter-County Matchplay Championship schedule at Bristol & Clifton Golf Club tomorrow.
