DAVID Howell will be hoping to deliver himself a birthday treat when he returns to action today for the first time in three weeks.

The Swindon ace, who turned 40 on Tuesday, will bid to get back to form at the BMW International Open in Germany.

Broome Manor pro Howell has not played since the first week of the month when he failed to qualify for the weekend at the Nordea Masters in Sweden, the third missed cut Howell suffered in as many weeks.

Howell also failed to produce his best form at the BMW PGA Championships and the Irish Open.

The two-time Ryder Cup winner goes off from the first tee at 12.20pm BST this afternoon at Golf Club Munchen Eichenried in Munich, alongside Spanish player Rafa Cabrera-Bello and South Africa's Retief Goosen.

Howell did not appear in the event last season and will be hoping for a better result than when he last played in 2013 - he failed to make the cut after finishing 102nd.
