DAVID Howell enjoyed a fine weekend at the Scottish Open.

The 40-year-old, having only just made the cut, went out on Saturday with a superb four-under-par round of 66 to move him six-under for the tournament.

The Broome Manor pro then warmed up for next week’s Open at St Andrews with a two-under par 68.

The two-time Ryder Cup winner went out on his final round picking up the second and seventh holes to put him in contention for the title.

But Howell then claimed a bogey four on 12 and a bogey five on 14 while taking birdies 13 and 16 to leave him eight-under overall.
