FIRST year Wrag Barn pro Matt Mumford is looking forward to playing alongside some of the UK’s elite golfers having qualified for the British Par Three Championships.

Mumford finished third in the qualifiers at the Nailcote Hall course near Coventry and will return to the same venue on August 12 to tee off with some of the country’s top pros.

Eddie Pepperell, Charly Hull, Paul Lawrie and Ian Woosnam are just some of the names Mumford will be competing with for a share of the £100,000 prize money.

For the 20-year-old qualifying for the event marks a breakthrough in his first pro year.

“It’s been a bit of a difficult transition from amateur to professional, but the last few weeks have progressed well,” said Mumford. “I recently shot a 69 in a Jamega event at Telford and then I got a good break and qualified for this.

“It doesn’t get much bigger than playing with some European Tour professionals, especially at such an early stage in my pro career.

“The names of like Paul Lawrie and Eddie Pepperell, even the LPGA golfers like Charly Hull and Carly Booth.

“It’s quite incredible to be in the same field as them.

“After the practice round (at the qualifiers) I said to my dad ‘I could probably edge this out’. “I was ecstatic to see my name on the leaderboard and for it to stay there.”
