SWINDON’S David Howell tees off stateside this lunchtime (12.55pm GMT) with a major ambition on his mind.

The 40-year-old Broome Manor ace is tackling the US PGA Championship for the fifth time in his career as part of a fine 2015 campaign, which has seen him rise up the rankings to number 86 in the world.

At Whistling Straits in Wisconsin, Howell will be competing in his second major of the year for the first time since 2007 and in 2016, the Swindon star wants the whole shebang – spots at the Masters, the US Open, The Open, and the USA PGA.

“The majors are always important and it’s nice to be doing two in a row,” said Howell.

“If I can perform this year, that should help get me up the rankings even more and set me up for next year’s majors – I want to be playing in all four.

“I’ve been in good form and the dream for me would be to still be in the mix at the weekend.”

Back in 2004, Howell finished tied 45th at the US PGA after going around the same Whistling Straits course one-over-par whilst in 2006 the two-time Ryder Cup player – then ranked inside the world’s top ten – was 67th at Medinah, nine shots over par.
