SWINDON’S David Howell has driven himself into the mix at the BMW Masters but was left to rue another double bogey on the back nine in China this morning.
Starting on the back nine at the Lake Malaren Golf Club in Shanghai, Howell started with two pars before sparking into life on the par-three 12th.
The Broome Manor pro needed just two shots to start a run of four consecutive birdies to move him into contention after just six holes.
Howell then came within an inch of landing himself a new BMW on the par-three 17th as his tee shot came up agonisingly short to prevent him landing the hole’s prize.
How did that not go in? No new car for David Howell. #BMWMasters https://t.co/EbWLiVUjaz

Howell ended up going out in 31, before a run of five pars somewhat halted his progress.
His momentum was further dented when he dropped two shots on the par-three sixth to see him slip back down the leaderboard.
Howell parred the remaining three holes to card a three-under-par score of 69 which left him tied 18th, five shots off overnight leader Sergio Garcia.
