JOSH Loughrey put himself in a great position to make the cut at the final stage of the European Tour Q School.

The Wrag Barn pro was well down the leaderboard after the opening two rounds at the PGA Catalunya Golf Resort over the weekend.

However, the 25-year-old shot a three-under-par round of 69 on Monday to leave him one-under for the tournament and tied 71st.

With one more round to go before the cut is made, Loughrey will be looking to maintain the form that saw him hit five birdies and two bogeys in Girona.

Leading the Wiltshire charge at Q School is Cumberwell Park’s Laurie Canter, but he has dropped to tied 22nd after a two-under 70.

But Canter will have hoped for more from his third round in Spain after hitting an eagle three at the 10th.

Bowood’s Jordan Smith looks set to be heading home after the fourth round as he currently lies in tied 115th.

However, the 23-year-old from Derry Hill, near Calne, enjoyed his best round of the week with a level par 72, but he remains at five-over for the tournament.
