JOSH Loughrey will be able to pit himself against some of the best golfers in the world next year after making the cut at the final stage of the European Tour qualifying school.

The Wrag Barn pro followed up Monday’s three-under-par 69 at the PGA Catalunya Golf Resort with a one-under 69 to give himself a chance of earning a category 15 European Tour card.

However, by making the cut in Spain, the 25-year-old has secured himself a category 20 tour card for the 2016 season allowing him to face the likes for Swindon’s two-time Ryder Cup winner David Howell.

Irishman Peter Lawrie, who failed to make the cut at Q School this week, had a category 20 card for the current campaign and he featured in 28 of the European Tour events.

Loughrey has also claimed a category nine Challenge Tour card.

The Swindon golfer will be joined in the final two rounds of Q School by Laurie Canter, from the Cumberwell Park club near Bradford on Avon.

But Canter will have been grateful for his opening three rounds which left him eight-under-par for the week before Tuesday’s two-over 74.

However, Jordan Smith, who will be playing on the Challenge Tour next season, is on his way home despite a superb final round.

The Bowood Park pro went into day four of Q School five-over for the week.

But the 23-year-old, from Derry Hill near Calne, started at a blistering pace in Girona as he hit an eagle three after beginning his round on the 10th hole.

Smith hit three birdies as he shot a five-under 65 to go level par and missing the cut by a single shot.
