A HORROR three-hole run shortly before the suspension of play for the day undid all David Howell's good work at the SA Open in Johannesburg today.

The Swindon ace ensured he made the cut in the weather-affected event by completing the final eight holes of his second round this morning, carding a one-over 73 to lie level par overall.

But the two-time Ryder Cup star seemed to be taking steps in the right direction in his third round, with birdies on the 14th and 15th after starting on the 10th.

Another birdie followed at the short third before the wheels came off in spectacular fashion. Bogeys at the fourth and sixth sandwiched a double bogey at the fifth as Howell tumbled back down to one over par when play was suspended - and later abandoned - due to the threat of lightning for the third day in succession.

England's Daniel Brooks and South Africa's Brandon Stone shared the lead on 10 under par, with Keith Horne two shots behind in third.
