A FOUR-under-par round on the last day of the Joburg Open saw Swindon’s David Howell secure a top 15 finish in South Africa.

Having hauled himself back up the leaderboard on Saturday with a three under par round, the 40-year-old was able to continue his march but came up just short of breaking into the top 10.

Howell started in fine fashion with birdies on his opening two holes to lift him to nine under for the tournament.

That was followed by consecutive pars before picking up another shot at the par-three fifth.

The Broome Manor pro had his progression checked when he picked up a bogey on the par-five sixth but recovered immediately to birdie the seventh, which saw him go out in 34.

Looking to continue his surge on the back nine, Howell faltered and eight consecutive pars saw his chances of a place inside the top 10 fade, but a birdie on the 18th secured him a tied 13th finish with an overall score of 11-under-par.
