SWINDON youngster Cillian Roberts’ qualification for the US Kids World Golf Championship has been described as a ‘dream come true’ for the nine-year-old.

Cillian, qualified for the event after he finished runner up in the Venice Open last season.

The youngster, who goes to Robert Le King Primary School, will travel across the pond to the world famous Pinehurst No.1 course on August 4-6.

The competition is played over three rounds on the championship course and will feature 160 players from around the world.

Cillian’s parents Chris and Darlene will be joining him in America for the two-day tournament.

Chris said: “Cillian is super excited about representing the UK in the World Championships.

“Cillian has always dreamed to play a tournament in the USA and playing in one this big has made all his dreams come true.

“We are very proud of Cillian and as long as he enjoys the experience then that’s all that matters for us”.

Roberts is coached at Broome Manor by PGA pro Lee Hayward, who has high hopes for his young protégé.

He said: “Cillian has worked really hard over the winter to prepare for this event and I am very proud of his achievement.

“He is a real pleasure to coach and he is always happy to learn new techniques to help him improve his game, he has a fun attitude and always tries his heart out on the golf course.

“Although Cillian is still a young player he has achieved so much in golf already, having said this he is a great lad and has stayed very grounded after all his achievements.”
