DAVID Howell endured a miserable second round at the Qatar Masters as he missed the cut for the second week in succession.

The Swindon ace, who was also eliminated at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship after two rounds, was heading home early once again as he shot a two-over par 74 in Doha.

The 41-year-old hit four bogeys and two birdies on Friday to leave himself one-over overall after an opening round of 71.

In stark contrast, Derry Hill’s Jordan Smith, who has been playing alongside Howell this week, continued his fine rise.

The 24-year-old got his second round off to a perfect start with an eagle three on the par-five opening hole.

The Bowood pro, who won the Challenge Tour Order of Merit last year, followed that up with five more birdies with only a bogey on the 15th blotting his copybook as he recorded a fantastic six-under 66.

Smith, who also shot a round of 71 on Thursday, has yet to miss a cut in 2017 after breaking into the world’s top 100 following his tied third place finish at the BMW SA Open earlier this month.
