DAVID Howell is hoping to kick-start his 2018 European Tour campaign as the Joburg Open got under way in South Africa tomorrow morning.

Howell, who saw his 2017 campaign ruined by injury, played his first tournament of the 2018 schedule two weeks ago in Hong Kong, but missed the cut despite an improved second round.

After a week's break, the 42-year-old will resume his playing commitments as the Joburg Open moved to a new venue of Randpark Golf Club, in Johannesburg, with two courses being used.

The Swindon ace missed the cut at the corresponding event held in February at the Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club.

Howell is joined in the field by two other Wiltshire-based golfers, Laurie Canter and Steve Surry, from the Cumberwell Park club near Bradford on Avon.
