DAVID Howell will not have a long weekend in the Far East after failing to make the cut at Binhai Lake.
The Broome Manor Star was well-placed on two-under-par following the opening round, but slipped off the pace this morning.
It was in the main a solid round from the former Ryder Cup man, but a lack of birdies played a significant role in the ending of his tournament.
Howell eventually finished his second 18 on two-over-par, taking him to par for the overall tournament and therefore missing the cut by two shots.
He bogeyed the seventh and ninth and hit pars on all 16 other holes.
Englishman Gary Boyd and Frenchman Jean-Baptiste Gonnet hold the overnight lead on 11-under-par, with South Africa’s Branden Grace and Belgium’s Nicolas Colsaerts in close attendance.
The tournament of record-breaking 13-year-old amateur Guan Tian-lang is over after he finished on 12-over-par overall.
