DAVID Howell is way down the leaderboard following his opening round in the BMW Asian Open this morning.
The Broome Manor man carded a disappointing three-over-par 75 to be well off the pace in Shanghai and will be in with a battle to make the cut.
Howell birdied the ninth, 11th and 17th, but his good work was undone with bogeys at the 13th and 14th. It got even worse with double bogeys on the second and 16th.
Peter O'Malley struck five under to lead the way, and there is a four-way tie for second place, with Henrik Stenson, Miko Ilonen, Jeev Mikha Singh and Oliver Wilson all hitting four-under-par 68.
