BROOME Manor star Miles Mackman and county colleague Sam Elkins, from South Wilts, have won the Wiltshire Foursomes Championship for the second time in five years, writes Ernie Newell.

They teamed up to win the championship at their first attempt as teenagers in 2004 at Bowood.

This time they won by two from new Wiltshire skipper Alistair James and his brother Charlie (Cumberwell Park) with one-over-par 145 at Kingsdown.

Home players Gordon Allen and Chris Hiscock were third, two strokes further back on 149, and Matt Swales (Cumberwell Park) and Joe Johnson (Broome Manor) fourth on 150.

Mackman, an England A squad player and the Lagonda champion, and Elkins, a former Wiltshire colts' champion, led the field after the first round on 73, one stroke ahead of Allen and Hiscock and Marlborough's Jeremy Tomlinson and Jack Hiscock.

The James brothers were two behind on 75 and Swales and Johnson three back on 76.

In the afternoon, Hiscock and Tomlinson slipped to 80 to share eighth place on 154 with Broome Manor's Paul Sandry and Julien Barber, who followed a 76 with a 78.

Swales and Johnson shot 74 for fourth place on 150 and Allen and Chris Hiscock took 75 for 149 and third spot.

The James boys went two strokes ahead of Allen and Chris Hiscock with a 72, while Mackman and Elkins increased their lead to two, also with a 72.

Nick Mumford, Swindon Ryder Cup player David Howell's caddie, teamed up with his brother Gary to finish joint fifth on 151.

Leading scores: 145 - M Mackman (Broome Manor) and S Elkins (South Wilts) 73-72; 147 - A James and C James (Cumberwell Park) 75-72; 149 - G Allen and C Hiscock (Kingsdown) 74-75; 150 - M Swales (Cumberwell Park) and J Johnson (Broome Manor) 76-74; 151 - R Danks and A Kaskow (West Wilts) 78-73, N and G Mumford (West Wilts) 75-76.
