SWINDON'S last away trip of the season ended in a heavy 10-1 defeat at Swansea University in the Davis Wood Championship.

The Wiltshire side are already relegated for the second season in a row. Swansea dealt Swindon a lesson in how to play quick, attacking, flowing hockey and taking the chances when they appear.

The visitors did start strongly and early saves from Alan Gough in the Swindon goal kept the students at bay and set the platform for Swindon to take the lead after 10 minutes. A great run and cross from Luke Cejer was picked up and smashed home by Henry Cheney.

The lead did not last long and two quick goals from the students put them ahead. At 2-1 down Swindon had a golden opportunity to draw level but the shot from Peter Gilbert was scrambled away by the Swansea keeper.

In the final 10 minutes of the half the students capitalised on some poor defending and grabbed another four unanswered goals to make it 6-1 at half-time.

Swindon came out and tried to battle their way into the game after the break, but the student goal fest continued with another two in the first 10 minutes of the second half.

Swindon were reduced to 10 after Gough was sent off for dissent.

With the visitors a man down the students managed to score another two goals.

After his return Gough, Tom Wickens and Chris Parsons worked tirelessly to stem the student onslaught and did well to keep the score at 10.

This weekend Swindon play their last league game and drop out of the top two levels of Men’s West & South Wales for the first time in 15 years.
