WOOTTON Bassett Ladies were defeated 3-2 by second-placed Jaspers in West Clubs Women’s League North last Saturday.
Bassett started disastrously with the first Jaspers attack ending with a goal.
Once the home side settled, they managed to create chances of their own, but it was Jaspers that struck next, doubling their lead.
A strong Bassett short corner resulted with Helen Wright's strike being stopped on the line by a defender's foot. Wright slotted home the resultant penalty to halve the deficit and make the half-time score 2-1 to the visitors.
Jaspers added another in the second half to take their lead to 3-1, before Tegan Buchanan hit home a short corner to give the home team some hope.
Wootton Bassett couldn't find another despite a player of the match performance from Vic Sammon. Bassett travel to Leominster next weekend in their last league fixture of this season where the winner will be assured fourth place. Elsewhere, the Ladies A team tied with Bath Buccs D 1-1.
Wootton Bassett men continued their dominance of Davis Wood East Central 1 with a 7-2 win over Chippenham A.
Meanwhile, the men’s B team beat Chippenham C 2-0, with goals from Miland Thapa and Nick Thomson.
