ERRORS in attack and defence cost Swindon Ladies dearly as they lost their last home game of the season 4-3 to Newent Ladies.

After starting strongly, Swindon failed to score from a number of opportunities. The paid for their wastefulness when the visitors got a breakaway goal, with Swindon defender Claire Sage unfortunately deflecting the ball into her own net.

Further errors allowed the visitors to extend their lead when the ball was gifted to a Newent attacker who scored a second after 20 minutes.

Swindon did finally grab a goal when Gemma Scrase scored from a well-worked penalty corner to bring the score to 1-2.

The optimism created by the score was immediately rubbed off as a number of missed Swindon tackles allowed Newent to score their third just before half-time.

The second half started with Swindon pressing Newent but, as in the first half, scoring opportunities were wasted.

Breaking from their defensive efforts, Newent broke to make the score 1-4 with 15 minutes left.

After a tactical reorganisation, Swindon began to mount a concerted effort to rescue the game and immediately pulled a goal back when Vicky Stokes scored from a penalty corner.

Swindon continued to pressure Newent and forced three short corners in the last two minutes. Julie Lewis eventually converting to take the score to 3-4 with Swindon ruing their errors that cost them a victory.
