SWINDON Hockey under 10 girls were unlucky not progress further in the South West final recently.

The girls remained unbeaten throughout the tournament but missed out on the chance to progress to the semi finals by one point. A good draw in the first match against Weymouth was followed by a victory over Truro. Despite excellent performances by all the players three successive draws against Cirencester, Bath Buccs and Taunton saw them just fail to progress.

First team player and youth coach Shona O'Dwyer thought that despite not making it through to the latter stages of the tournament that the girls should be delighted with how they played.

“The girls were amazing and really listened to all the instructions I gave them; they should be very proud of their performance,” she said.

The under 10 boys were also in action at Millfield and put in another strong performance winning two, drawing three and losing one. Ultimately the draws also cost the boys their opportunity to progress to the knockout rounds.

Elsewhere the under 12 boys were involved in the Bath Buccs tournament at Bath University. Whilst never quite matching their usual high standards the boys still came away with more silverware to their add collection this season.

Playing in atrocious conditions at times - the down pour was so bad the team shirts had to be put under a hand dryer between matches - Swindon fully deserved their position as plate winners The final competition of the season will be Swindon's very own tournament at Isambard on May 18.
