WOOTTON Bassett ladies home record got off to a great start with a 3-0 win over Weymouth.

Tegan Buchanan got the hosts their first goal in the opening minutes when great interlinking play down the right from herself and Suzanne Lello ended with a powerful shot from Buchanan beating the Weymouth keeper from a very tight angle.

Bassett maintained pressure on the Weymouth defence and won a short corner - the initial shot was saved but good battling from Kelly Lusted and Katy Cox set up Helen Wright to fire home the hosts’ second goal.

Weymouth fought back hard near the end of the half but the Bassett defence held strong and the score remained 2-0 at the midway point.

Weymouth picked up the pace at the start of the second half and Bassett looked panicked, giving away a number of short corners and free hits, however the midfield and defence soaked up the pressure and managed to prevent the Weymouth attackers from converting any chances.

Most of the remaining time was spent with end-to-end play, with both teams having shots on goal and both keepers pulling off some great saves.

Just before the final whistle, Abi Turner hassled Weymouth’s central defender and won a short corner. Her hard work paid off when she got the deflection and Bassett’s third and final goal off of Katy Cox strike.

Turner and Wright were voted joint players of the match.
