SWINDON avenged their early-season home defeat to Devizes with a 3-1 win on the road.

The game was a fairly bad-tempered affair, with a number of robust challenges made early on.

The visitors looked the stronger and capitalised from a short corner some ten minutes into the first period, Henry Cheney following-up Luke Cejer’s effort from a short corner.

With ten minutes to go in the first half, Swindon doubled their lead. Pete Gilbert drove down the left and appeared to have overrun the ball but he digged out a fantastic reverse stick cross. Cheney picked up the ball, remaining composed before slotting his and Swindon's second of the game.

In the second half, the away side took full advantage of a yellow card for a Devizes player, Cheney completing his hat-trick after Steve Gilbert, Steve Dixon and James Lewis combined for the assist.

Veteran keeper Alan Gough was again in fine form for the visitors, denying Devizes from countless short corners. But tventually, Gough was beaten by a tidy finish from the right of the circle.

Despite late yellow cards for Thomas Hunt and James Lewis, Swindon never really looked in danger and saw out the game.

The result was Swindon's seventh win in eight since Christmas and sets the team up nicely for a proper run at promotion.

Thier last home game of the season, on Saturday sees the visit of Yate, another side who defeated the Isambard School side in first half of the season.
